10 imagesMore than one million people from differents places in Spain and different countries were at the Alcala square in Madrid to celebrate the gay pride parade- Spain
11 imagesThere is no doubt that Madrid has become one of the top gay destinations in the world. By its very nature, Madrid is an open-minded city and has always welcomed all those wanting to live life their own way. The Chueca neighbourhood sets an example for all the world to see, of how an area can be restored and turned into a unique area of personal freedom. The Madrid Orgullo (‘orgullo’ is the Spanish word for pride), however, is perhaps also the least gay of major pride events, as it has gradually turned into the main fiesta for the city. Activities are centred around Chueca, and at night the streets will be jam packed with concert-goers out to enjoy the free live acts in the neighbourhood’s squares, but you may be hard pressed to spot the likeminded.
